Thimbles

Description

Thimbles are protective metal fittings used inside wire rope eye loops to preserve the rope's shape and prevent wear caused by friction, abrasion, or crushing. By reinforcing the eye, thimbles help maintain the integrity and longevity of the rope under load. Typically made from galvanized steel, stainless steel, or other durable alloys, thimbles are essential in applications where wire rope terminations are frequently exposed to hooks, shackles, or other hardware.

Most Common Applications

  • Lifting & Rigging: Prevent deformation of rope eyelets in slings and lifting assemblies.
  • Marine & Offshore: Protect cable loops in mooring lines, boat rigging, and anchor systems.
  • Construction & Infrastructure: Used in tensioned support cables, guy wires, and suspension systems.
  • Transport & Logistics: Reinforce tie-down terminations and cargo securing cables.
  • Utility & Communications: Applied in guyed towers, utility poles, and aerial support lines.

Features

  • Manufactured from galvanized, stainless, or carbon steel for strength and corrosion resistance
  • Available in standard, heavy-duty, and commercial-grade styles
  • Helps maintain loop shape and reduce wear on wire rope under tension
  • Suitable for use with wire rope clips, ferrules, and other terminations
  • Enhances safety and durability in high-stress applications
